MANILA, Philippines – Serena Williams will look to secure her 20th Grand Slam singles title as she begins her French Open campaign against Andrea Hlavackova on Day 3 of the tournament.
Williams, who has won 57 of her 58 first-round matches at majors, will also aim to end her drought at Roland Garros. The lone dent in the American’s personal record came in Paris in 2012, per Associated Press.
The decorated Olympian no longer needs an introduction to Hlavackova as they already tangled in the US Open in 2012.
Czech netter Hlavackova qualified for the French Open’s main draw afterKristina Kucova, Alberta Brianti and Anastasia Rodionova.
Williams, who also headlines this year’s new-look Philippine Mavericks, dominated the aforementioned duel, 6-0 and 6-0.
Currently the World No. 1, Williams will definitely draw Filipino fans once returns to the country for the IPTL this December.
