Brunei Darussalam recently hosted the 6th Asian Amateur Chess Championship. The competition, organised by the Brunei Darussalam Chess Federation and sponsored by the Asian Chess Federation and the World Chess Federation, attracted eleven countries.
The championship was concluded with a prize presentation by Datin Paduka Hajah Adina binti Othman, the Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports. The participants were from several ASEAN countries, India, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Uzbekistan.
Shyam Sundar from India won the Open Category. The Women’s Category was won by Chandreyee Hajra, also from India. Meanwhile, the 50 years old and above category was won by Manaog Stewart from the Philippines. Daler Vakhidov from Uzbekistan was chosen as the Best Under-16 participant, while the title of Best Player went to Emas Fajar Fatikh from Indonesia. Mohd Aliuddin Haji Azahari was chosen as the Best Local Player.
