Soldier, 3 others killed in Basilan shootings, clash

A soldier and three other individuals were killed separately in Basilan province following a shooting incident at a military camp, officials disclosed Thursday.

Brig. Gen. Domingo Gobway, the Army’s 101st Infantry Brigade commander, said Nuri Isnail Jaari grabbed the rifle of Private First Class Dave Lagoy of the 64th Infantry Battalion (IB) and repeatedly shot the soldier around 9:40 a.m. Wednesday at the unit’s headquarters in Barangay Pamatsaken, Sumisip town, for still-unknown reasons.

Jaari is an intelligence personnel of the 64IB’s Civilian Active Auxiliary Force.

Gobway said Lahoy was rushed to the hospital in Isabela City, where he expired due to multiple gunshot wounds.

Col. Richard Verceles, operations chief of the Area Police Command-Western Mindanao, said Jaari, 27, also shot and killed two more people while fleeing towards Barangay Sumisip Central.

The slain duo was identified as Alsaidi Abbilul, 28, and Kannami Jannatul, 32, both from the same village.

Gobway said Jaari was killed in a five-minute clash with pursuing troops around 3:50 p.m. in Barangay Luuk-Bait, also in Sumisip.

The remains of the Jaari, Abbilul, and Jannatul were turned over to their respective families for proper Muslim burial rites.
