Trump Directs Commanders to Develop Greenland Invasion Strategy: Report

Washington: US President Donald Trump has reportedly instructed special forces commanders to draft a plan for the invasion of Greenland, as stated by the UK-based Daily Mail on Sunday. This directive follows the successful military operation conducted by Washington on January 3 in Venezuela, which resulted in the capture of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife.

According to Philippines News Agency, Trump is being urged by policy 'hawks around the US President' to act swiftly and secure the island before Russia or China can make any advances. To this end, Trump has tasked the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) with formulating an invasion strategy. However, the plan faces opposition from the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who argue that such an action would be unlawful and without congressional endorsement.

On Friday, Greenland's political leaders expressed their discontent, stating, "We do not want to be Americans, we do not want to be Danes, we want to be Greenlanders," in response to Trump's remarks about acquiring Greenland. During a White House event, Trump emphasized, "We are going to do something on Greenland, whether they like it or not, because if we don't do it, Russia or China will take over Greenland, and we're not going to have Russia or China as a neighbor."

Trump further commented on the situation by saying, "I would like to make a deal the easy way, but if we don't do it the easy way, we will do it the hard way." His statements have sparked criticism, with European nations particularly concerned that such a move could potentially lead to the dissolution of NATO.
