New york: UN relief chief Tom Fletcher said Saturday that humanitarian teams are prepared to respond to the effects of strikes in the Middle East. "In close touch today with our humanitarian teams across Middle East - ready to respond to humanitarian impact of strikes swiftly and effectively. Civilians must be protected," Fletcher wrote on US social media company X. According to Philippines News Agency, the US and Israel launched a major military operation against Iran on Saturday, which President Donald Trump stated was intended to degrade Tehran's military capabilities and neutralize what Washington describes as a nuclear threat. Trump urged Iranians to 'take over your government' once the strikes conclude. In retaliation, Iran fired drones and missiles toward Israel and struck US military facilities in Bahrain, Kuwait, and Qatar. Meanwhile, the UN special rapporteur on the right to housing accused the US and Israel on Saturday of "destroying world peace and order." Balakrishnan Rajagopal, in a post on X , expressed strong disapproval of the actions taken by the US and Israel. He emphasized that many innocents would suffer and lose their homes due to the conflict. Rajagopal stressed, "US-Israel are destroying world peace and order." The strikes occurred following the latest round of US-Iran nuclear talks, which concluded Thursday in Geneva. Both parties had described the atmosphere as serious and constructive under Omani mediation. This incident follows a similar event last June, when the US targeted three Iranian nuclear sites during a 12-day Israel-Iran conflict.
