BUTUAN CITY - The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) of Surigao City activated 37 rehabilitated and modernized closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras on Wednesday, enhancing the city's security and safety measures. The upgraded CCTV system, installed in strategic locations, features smart technology capable of detecting crimes, faces, unusual activities, and smoke. It tracks and retraces movements, counts individuals and vehicles, and enhances overall surveillance. 'The PHP3.5 million project is part of the city's commitment to ensuring public safety,' the Surigao City Public Information Office said in a statement Thursday. The project was a priority of Mayor Pablo Yves Dumlao II and was funded by the local government. Of the 37 CCTVs, 16 were newly purchased, while 21 were repaired and upgraded after being damaged during Typhoon Odette in December 2021. The city government plans to expand its CCTV coverage next year, targeting busy areas, such as seaports. Source: Philippin es News agency
