Voters registration ends 5 p.m. Thursday: Comelec

MANILA -- The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said that all Offices of Election Officers (OEOs) will be open until 5 p.m. on November 30, the last day of the ongoing voter registration nationwide.

Until 5 p.m. (the OEOs will be open), said Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez in a statement.

With this, he urged registered voters to convince those that have yet to file their applications, for them to be able to participate in the May 14, 2018 Barangay and SangguniangKabataan (SK) polls.

"If you're already a registered voter, help newbies find their way to a #VoterReg2017 center today! Help them understand why every vote matters in a democracy!" Jimenez said in his Twitter account, @jabjimenez.

Earlier, the poll body said they are looking to register less than 500,000 new regular voters and some 350,000 youth voters during the registration period.

Latest figure showed that a total of 496,816 applications for registration so far, have been filed between November 6 to 25.

On the other hand, the poll body has set procedures to be followed by all OEOs on the last day of registration.

Comelec Resolution No. 10214 states that, if at 3 p.m. there are still persons waiting in line to file their applications within the 30-meter radius in front of the OEO or any other place/s where voter registration is being conducted, the election assistant (EA) shall list down their names consecutively numbered.

The listed applicants shall, then, be called by announcing each name repeatedly three times in the order in which they were listed.

The poll body noted that only those who are present when called, shall be processed and the biometrics data captured.

"The same shall continue, until all those listed shall have been processed," it added.
