The inauguration ceremony of Vice President-elect Sara Duterte on Sunday carried the theme service to the nation, family, and God, and a reminder cast aside politicking.
Senator Francis Tolentino, in a radio interview on Monday, said Duterte offered the hand of unity and asked for cooperation to allow the country to move forward.
He took note of Duterte's priorities and how she intends to serve for the next six years.
"Gusto niyang magsilbing inspirasyon eh. Na dapat isipin natin ‘yung sa kapakanan ng bayan, ng Pilipinas. Gusto niyang ipakita ‘yung tapang. Gusto niyang ipakita na matapang ang bawat Pilipino (She wants to serve as an inspiration. That we should think about the welfare of our country. She wants to show the bravery of every Filipino)," he said.
In her inaugural speech at San Pedro Square in Davao City, Duterte said God, country, and family should be prioritized.
"One of the most important lessons I have learned as I navigate life and the same thing I believe should be pondered upon as one country united in our determination to overcome our difficulties and achieve our aspirations is that we should commit to heart the priorities of God, country, and family," she said.
Senator Sonny Angara, meanwhile, described Duterte as a "straight to the point" kind of person.
"Sasabihin niya kung ano ‘yung reasons niya for the Filipino people para sa next six years," he told reporters in Davao who covered the outdoor inauguration attended by President Rodrigo Duterte, President-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr., and former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
He vowed support for Duterte's initiatives as the next secretary of the Department of Education.
