Zambo mayor bats for land acquisition for new airport

The local government is threshing out logistical issues and other requirements to complete the land acquisition phase of the new Zamboanga International Airport project here.

This came about as Mayor John Dalipe on Wednesday ordered the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) to work on the project's land acquisition phase.

Earlier, 2nd District Rep. Jose Manuel Dalipe initiated the inclusion of the initial PHP200 million funding in the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2019 and PHP800 million in the GAA of 2020 to set the project in motion.

Mayor Dalipe said subject to initial acquisition are 44 lots, the appraisal of which has been completed.

Another 10 lots amounting to PHP152 million are subject to negotiation, he added.

The new city airport project, which would cost the government about PHP13.9 billion, is expected to meet international standards with state-of-the-art facilities.

The new airport will be located on a 175-hectare site in the Mercedes-Talabaan-Zambowood area situated about 13 km. away from the city proper.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said in his first State of the National Address that his administration would upgrade and create more airports to help decongest the bottleneck at the Manila International Airport.
