CONSUL GENERAL DIZON-DE VEGA MEETS WITH MALAYSIAN COUNTERPART IN NEW YORK

Consul General Theresa Dizon-De Vega met with her Malaysian Counterpart Consul General Jeremiah Oliver Jitos as part of efforts to develop closer linkages with other ASEAN Consulates General based in New York.

Consul General De Vega and Consul General Jitos discussed the current state of Philippines-Malaysia Bilateral Relations and the common concerns ranging from trade, cultural, and tourism promotion to issues affecting their respective overseas communities.

They also discussed the recent successful Visit of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to Malaysia in November 2016 and the positive impact of the visit on Philippines-Malaysia Relations.

The Consuls General talked abuot the thematic priorities for the Philippines' chairmanship of ASEAN as well as the commemorative events marking the 50th Anniversary of the regional group.

Consul General Dizon-De Vega and Consul General Jitos agreed to work with other ASEAN member countries represented in New York to hold a commemorative event sometime in 2017 to mark the 50th anniversary of ASEAN. END
