MANILA-- Filipino tennis player Jeson Patrombon kicked off his campaign in the Indian ITF Futures on a high note with a first-round victory over Indian Aryan Goveas on Wednesday at the Trivandrum Tennis Club outdoor claycourt in the capital city of Kerala state.
The 23-year-old Patrombon, who hails from Iligan City, Lanao del Norte, stamped his class over Goveas, 6-4, 6-1, to arrange a second-round duel with Indian Ranjeet Virali Murugesan.
Murugesan, the tournament's No. 8 player, scored a 6-4, 6-2 victory over compatriot Suraj R. Prabodh in their first-round encounter.
Taiwanese Jui-Chen Hung and Hong Kong's Hong Kit Wong also won their matches to join Patrombon in the next round.
Hung downed Indian Vijayant Malik, 6-4, 6-0, to advance against No. 1 Prajnesh Gunneswaran, a 6-1, 6-3 winner over compatriot Kunal Anand.
Wong, on the other hand, rallied past Indian Siddhart Vishwakarma, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 to forge a showdown with Indian Jayesh Pungliya, who eliminated No. 5 German Sami Reinwein, 6-1, 6-4.
No. 4 Indian Sasi Kumar Mukund followed Reinwein to the exit door after losing to Indian qualifier Viqnesh Peranamallur, 6-7(2), 6-7(6).
The other remaining seeds in the second round were No. 2 N. Sriram Balaji, No. 3 Vishnu Vardhan, No. 6 N. Vijay Sundar Prashanth, and No. 7 Rishab Agarwal.
