Bacolod folks urged to follow health rules as gift for loved ones

Mayor Evelio Leonardia urged residents here to continue following minimum public health protocols during the Christmas season to protect the people they care about from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

“Until now, the best Christmas gift we can give to our loved ones is to follow health protocols,” Leonardia said in his Christmas message on Friday.

He assured Bacolodnons the city government is doing everything it can to ensure Bacolod can hurdle the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Our vaccination rate can be said as one of the highest in the country. Very soon, we will achieve the official status of herd immunity. That is something so big that for sure will help us go faster to that road to recovery and faster trip to normalcy,” the mayor added.

Meanwhile, Leonardia said the city government will distribute Christmas food bags to some 50,000 indigents starting Christmas Day on Saturday.

Recipients can claim their Christmas bags from barangay centers through their village officials since the traditional annual distribution at the BAYS Center or the mayor’s residence has been canceled.

“This time, we will bring our Christmas gifts closer to the people. That is why we decided that the bags be delivered to the 61 barangays on Christmas Day,” Leonardia said.

Each Christmas food bag contains a kilo of spaghetti pasta, spaghetti sauce, corned beef, luncheon meat, sardines, and cereal drink sachets.

“Village watchmen and volunteers will provide assistance to ensure orderly distribution. I’m reminding the recipients to observe minimum health protocols,” the mayor added.
