Pangasinan police on full alert status amid holidays

The Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) has intensified its efforts to maximize patrol operations in places of convergence as it is now on full alert status during the holidays.

In a phone interview on Friday, PPPO acting director Col. Richmond Tadina said they have capacitated the intelligence unit to prevent criminals from taking advantage of the Christmas season.

“We are focused on incidents that are prevalent during this time such as shoplifting, robbery, and vehicular traffic accidents,” he said.

Tadina said they have ramped up deployment of personnel especially in malls, plazas, tourist spots, and churches where most people gather.

“We have strengthened police presence, mobile, and motorcycle patrolling units,” he added.

Tadina said they continue to conduct random checkpoints even with the eased quarantine protocols as the province has been under Alert Level 2 status.

“We are looking into the increasing vehicular traffic incidents. Most of the victims are usually under the influence of alcohol,” he said.

Meanwhile, Tadina said they are monitoring armed criminal groups to ensure the safe conduct of next year’s elections.

He said candidates are now focused on giving out aid to the Pangasinenses amid the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.

Tadina said signing of a “peace pact” will still be conducted soon, to be led by the PPPO.
