At least 100 health front-liners were inoculated with Pfizer vaccine as the giving of booster shots against coronavirus disease (Covid-19) was launched at the Cagayan Valley Medical Center (CVMC) here on Wednesday.

Dr. Glenn Mathew Baggao, CVMC hospital chief, told the Philippine News Agency that they prioritized Covid-19 ward doctors and other health front-liners in the administration of the third jab.

“This is our much-awaited booster shots so that we have a continuous protection while doing our duties,” he said.

Baggao said the Department of Health central office has directed a heterologous vaccine for the booster shot to ensure its efficacy, noting that vaccines with the same brands tend to lose efficacy on third shots for the same person.

Meanwhile, the hospital chief noted a sharp decrease in the number of Covid-19 cases at the CVMC.

The facility currently has only 60 cases — 50 from Cagayan, seven from Isabela, two from Kalinga and one from Manila.

The virus cases ballooned to a daily average of almost 200 in the past months.
