Health care workers in the Bicol Region have started receiving coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccine booster doses.

Noemi Bron, Department of Health-Bicol (DOH-5) Education Promotion chief, said a total of 174,267 medical workers have completed their primary doses of the Covid-19 jab.

“The eligible health workers may receive a single dose of Covid-19 vaccine as a booster dose at least six months after completion of their second dose and at least three months after the single-dose Janssen,” she said in an interview on Friday.

Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, Sinovac, Gamaleya, Sputnik V, and AstraZeneca vaccines are all two-dose jabs.

Health officials continuously remind that Covid-19 vaccines reduce the risk of severe symptoms, hospitalization, and death.

“An extra dose of vaccine can boost the immune response of the body. Administration of booster doses may be done during the upcoming national vaccination days on November 29 to December 1, 2021,” a DOH statement read.

Bicol local government units are already planning additional doses for senior citizens and adults with comorbidities.

“With the commencement of booster doses in the country, DOH reiterates to all Bicolanos 12 years old above, especially the senior citizens and persons with comorbidities, who have not received any dose of vaccine to submit themselves for vaccination,” Bron said.
