A total of 3,032 police personnel have yet to get vaccinated against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

In its update on Monday, the Philippine National Police (PNP) Health Service said this represents 1.35 percent of the police force.

Meanwhile, about 90.76 percent or 203,588 of PNP personnel have been fully vaccinated while 7.89 percent or 17,692 personnel have received their first dose.

The PNP also continues to see a steady decline in the daily number of new cases, with only six new infections reported on Monday.

This brought the total number of active cases to 300 out of a total of 42,022 confirmed infections.

Another 24 new recoveries were also recorded, raising the number of recovered cases to 41,598.

The death toll rose to 124 as another police officer succumbed to the disease.

In a statement, PNP Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said the latest death is a 35-year-old police officer assigned in Western Mindanao who died last Oct. 17 due to respiratory failure secondary to Covid-19.

He, however, said the death of the police officer was only confirmed and reported over the weekend.

Based on his medical records, the patient experienced mild symptoms of Covid-19 last Oct. 3 and relied on traditional medication.

On Oct. 13, the symptoms persisted and his immediate superior asked him to have a medical check-up and go to the nearby hospital but his family refused.

On Oct. 14, with the help of a close friend, the family of the patient agreed to have him transferred to the hospital and undergo a rapid antigen test which yielded positive results.
