The eight public schools in Cebu province included in the pilot run of the limited face-to-face (F2F) classes on November 15 have established contingency measures in case of any eventualities, the top education official in Region 7 said on Wednesday.
Department of Education (DepEd)-Central Visayas regional director Salustiano Jimenez said each of these schools included in the 30 schools that passed the safety assessment of the central office have also created their own “pilot limited face-to-face classes implementation plan”.
Jimenez said such a plan serves as a guide for the school principals in the event of any worse case scenario that will occur in the future.
“As of now, DepEd-7 is focused on these eight schools. We will be visiting personally starting tomorrow (Thursday) to check with them if they are indeed 95-percent ready for the limited face-to-face classes,” Jimenez told the Philippine News Agency in an interview.
These are the Basak Elementary School (ES) in Samboan, Mahanlud ES in Malabuyoc, Cabagdalan ES in Balamban, Luyongbaybay ES in Bantayan, Cañang-Marcelo Luna National High School (NHS) in Oslob, Busay NHS in Moalboal, Pilar NHS in Pilar, Camotes Island, and Siocon ES in Bogo City.
The rest of the schools participating in the limited in-person classes are in Bicol, Negros Island, and Mindanao area.
Jimenez said 30 schools in Cebu were included in the list after the barangay councils passed a resolution stating absence of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in their respective places.
Most of these schools are either in the hinterland and island villages in Cebu provinces, he added.
In Tuesday’s online briefing, DepEd Assistant Secretary Malcolm Garma said only 30 schools have passed the DepEd’s school safety assessment.
The DepEd earlier said there were 59 schools that passed the assessment of the Department of Health Epidemiology Bureau and were tagged as minimal or low risk for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
The regional directors were instructed to conduct a “quick validation” of the 59 schools which were reduced to 30 schools for the two-month pilot run of limited face-to-face classes.
