Antique learners ready for Nov. 15 start of face-to-face classes

Information

Learners from two schools in Antique identified by the Department of Education (DepEd) for the pilot of the face-to-face classes starting Nov. 15 are ready.

A simulation exercise was held the first week of this month to determine their readiness, DepEd Antique Schools Governance and Operations Division Chief Evelyn Remo said in an interview on Tuesday.

“The learners at the Mayabay Primary School in Barbaza and Igsoro Integrated School in Bugasong already had their simulation exercises for them to know the health protocol that they will have to observe,” she said.

Mayabay Primary School has 89 learners– 20 are enrolled in Kindergarten and 69 from Grades 1 to 6.

The Igsoro Integrated School, meanwhile, has 21 kindergarteners and 68 Grade 1 to 3 learners who will participate in the face-to-face classes.

Remo said learners were oriented by the DepEd nurses about the locations of their entrance and exit gates, handwashing before they enter their classrooms, keeping safe physical distancing by following the foot markings, and sitting only on their assigned seats.

“The seats inside the classrooms are separated by plastic barriers for safe physical distancing of the learners,” she said.

Remo added that the learners also had an orientation on what to do during their every Monday morning flag-raising ceremony.

Learners like the Kindergarten pupils in Mayabay were divided into two groups–the first 10 will have their face-to-face classes on the first week while the other 10 will have their modular classes at home.

“The face-to-face classes will be done alternately every week,” she said.

Remo said the same schedule will be carried out for the other learners of the Mayabay and Igsoro.

She said the teachers of both schools were vaccinated against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Parents of learners in Igsoro were also vaccinated while those of Mayabay are expected to do receive their doses before the Nov. 15 start of face-to-face classes.

Remo said Municipal Health Office chief Dr. Barry Juanitas plans to inoculate anytime soon the parents of the learners including even the other siblings who qualified under the 12 to 17 years old Covid-19 vaccination.
