Bacolod info office shut as 14 personnel contract Covid-19

The Public Information Office (PIO) here has been placed on lockdown from Aug. 8-13 for disinfection after majority of its staff tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

As of Monday, 14 of the 20 employees, including office head Danny Dangcalan, have confirmed infection, but are asymptomatic, and have already been placed on 14-day isolation.

Four of the personnel have tested negative while two are still awaiting the result of their reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests.

“Those who tested negative also have to isolate at home since they are close contacts,” a report from the PIO said.

The PIO office is located at the third floor of the Bacolod City Government Center.

Its staff was tasked to cover the city government’s various activities, including those related to the local government unit’s Covid-19 response as well as events attended by Mayor Evelio Leonardia.

On Aug. 8, Bacolod recorded 36 new cases, bringing its total caseload to 15,740, including 868 active cases; 14,509 recoveries; and 363 deaths, data from the Department of Health-Western Visayas showed.
