Mayor Michael Rama on Thursday announced “opening” the city for economic activities, removing major restrictions against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) under “shared responsibilities” in the new normal.
In a press conference before the 85th Cebu City Charter Day ceremony, Rama cited the declaration of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) placing the capital city under the lower Alert Level 2 from February 16-28 as a basis for issuing the “open all” policy.
Rama said in the order that all establishments and activities are now allowed to operate regardless of age and vaccination status, stressing, however, the continued observance of minimum public health standards.
He said returning to pre-pandemic status should be coupled with the new normal in doing things like continuous wearing of face mask, physical distancing, frequent hand-washing, proper coughing etiquettes, and staying at home especially if sick.
“With the expiration of all prior EO (executive orders) and directives on curfew, the observance of curfew is hereby formally lifted except the curfew on minors which must be observed and enforced from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. pursuant to an existing city ordinance,” the mayor said, as he announced lifting of curfew for adults.
Even as he cited the gains in the vaccination rollout here, Rama stressed the need for the continued incentivized inoculation program to encourage more people to get their jabs”as a measure of self-preservation and protection”.
“In an effort to promote, self-regulation, all establishments, persons, and families are directed to set and impose proactive health protocols and action plans. These include the installation of facilities and devices which include air circulation and proper ventilation,” he said.
The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has been seeing a downtrend in Covid-19 cases.
As of Wednesday’s data, the city logged only 45 new Covid-19 cases and 186 additional recoveries, bringing the total active infections to 1,015.
