The Commission on Elections (Comelec) office in Antique province is ready to receive local politicians who will file their certificates of candidacy (COCs) from October 1 to 8.

The provincial and municipal election offices in the 18 towns of the province will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on these dates, Comelec-Antique Election Assistant Hans Abarrientos said in an interview Thursday.

“We are ready to receive the COCs,” he said.

Abarrientos said they would only allow two members of the media to cover inside the provincial office.

“The media may take turns to have their coverage,” he said, adding that others could stay at the Media Center at the ground floor of the Barbaza Cooperative Building where the Comelec provincial office is situated.

He also said they are limiting the number of people inside the Comelec provincial office as a preventive measure against the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Starting Friday, Comelec assistant regional election director, lawyer Tomas Valera, will sit as acting provincial director in a concurrent capacity, replacing lawyer Ian Lee Ananoria, who assumed as provincial director of Negros Occidental.

Meanwhile, Comelec offices were open until 7 p.m. on Thursday to accommodate registration applicants.

He said the extension of registration each day depends on the discretion of the election officers, based on the number of people waiting to be registered.
