Comelec-NegOr purges voters’ list

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Negros Oriental is validating and deleting double and multiple registration entries of voters for the May 9, 2022 national and local polls.

Lawyer Ian Macaraya, city election officer here and spokesperson of the Comelec in Negros Oriental, on Monday said they are now deleting entries of voter-registrants whose names appeared more than once in their database.

The discovery is done through the fingerprints of a person in the Comelec’s Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS).

This has delayed the release of the final list of the approved registered voters here and in the province by the Election Registration Board (ERB) of the Comelec.

Provincial Election Supervisor lawyer Eddie Aba had previously announced that the ERB was expected to release the final list of registered voters as early as November 11.

The double or multiple entries of a voter-applicant is not intentional but more of technical or inadvertent oversight during the registration period, Macaraya said.

He reassured there are no “flying voters” here as modern technology can now easily trace those who may be registered in different places for the coming elections.

Besides, a photo of a registered voter will appear in the Election Day Computerized Voters List, he added.

The Comelec here could not yet give the number of double and multiple-entry registrants as it is still deleting data and collating the final list.
