Cordillera tops list of 832 areas under granular lockdown: PNP

The number of areas placed under granular lockdown has decreased to 832, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Friday.

This is a slight drop from 844 areas recorded on Thursday.

The Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) has the most number of areas under granular lockdown at 240, followed by Cagayan Valley with 212; National Capital Region, 196. Ilocos Region, 165; and Mimaropa, 19.

Three provinces in the CAR — Kalinga, Ifugao, and Mountain Province — have been placed under the stricter Alert Level 4 starting Friday until January 31.

An escalation to Alert Level 4 means that an area has reached more than 70 percent in healthcare utilization rate, and alarmingly high two-week growth and average daily attack rates (ADAR).

Some 1,362 individuals are currently affected by the lockdowns.

A total of 211 personnel and 443 force multipliers were deployed to the affected areas to ensure security and adherence to minimum health standards.

Under the Alert Level System rules, local government units (LGUs) decide whether or not to impose or lift a granular lockdown on a house, compound, street, or building based on the number of infections reported.

Granular lockdowns are being imposed on a micro-level area Covid-19 quarantines for “critical zones” in LGUs.

Meanwhile, the police force continues to see a decline in active infections, with only 3,451 active cases.

This is a slight drop from Thursday’s 3,482 infections, despite logging another 339 new infections on Friday.

Another 370 new recoveries brought the tally to 43,200, out of a total of 46,777 confirmed infections since the start of the pandemic.

The police force’s Covid-19 death toll stands at 126. (PNA)
