The Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) has breached the 10,000 mark of active coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases even as 540 recoveries were logged on Thursday.

Based on the daily Covid-19 tracker of the Department of Health (DOH)-CAR, the region now has a total of 10,059 active cases after 733 new cases were recorded as of Thursday night.

The new cases were logged in Baguio City, 219; Benguet, 261; Kalinga, 176; Mountain Province, 39; Ifugao, 31; and Apayao, 7.

From the active cases, 5,245 are asymptomatic, 4,415 with mild symptoms, 284 are moderate, 102 are, critical; and 6 are severe. Seven other cases are for verification.

The case tracker also showed the region recorded 17 deaths — four in Abra, six in Baguio, five in Benguet, and two in Mountain Province.

The region recorded an increasing trend in Covid-19 cases starting middle of August that was followed by the DOH’s Philippine Genome Center (PGC) report on the presence of the more transmissible Delta variant.

While cases surge, the region also continues to record recoveries. On Thursday, 540 recoveries were logged to bring its total to 56,200. The region’s recovery rate is 83.34 percent of the total cases.

Contact tracing

The local government units (LGU) in the region continue to improve their contact tracing to immediately place in quarantine possible carriers of the virus.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government-CAR Regional Director Araceli San Jose, earlier directed all LGUs to utilize the Barangay Health Emergency Teams (BHERT) to help in contact tracing and locating identified close contacts for immediate quarantine.

The DILG-CAR has hired and deployed contact tracers to augment the LGU-hired tracers — Abra, 39; Apayao, 25; Baguio, 70; Benguet, 70; Ifugao, 18; Kalinga, 40; and Mountain Province, 32.
