Medical & Health

The city government here recorded 46 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases with one death on Wednesday. It has yet to confirm a Delta variant case here.

In his video message, Mayor Marc Brian Lim said of the total number of new cases, eight were medical front-liners, 17 cases were discovered as workplace infection, and the 21 were part of close contacts of the Covid-19 positive patient.

“The medical front-liners working in the different hospitals in the city are highly susceptible to get infected with Covid-19. The workplace infections or the spread of the virus in a workplace was due to some business establishments lacking in ventilation or employees eating meals together,” he said.

Lim said 21 new cases were contacts traced from the index cases.

“This means, workplace infection leads to household infection. It might possibly be because when one gets infected at the workplace, it was brought home to their loved ones,” he added.

Lim reminded the Dagupeños to continue to abide by the health protocols.

“What is important is that we raise the level of discipline by continuously practicing the wearing of face masks and face shields, especially during this time that Covid-19 cases are increasing not only in the country but worldwide due to the Delta variant,” he said.

Lim said the city government is ramping up medical equipment and personnel to serve more Covid-19 patients.

“We have stockpiled oxygen tanks, hired more nurses for the vaccination rollout and the quarantine facilities, and the Philippine National Police and the Public Order and Safety Office are enforcing the set protocols,” he added.
