The Philippines logged its lowest daily coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in over a month, with 3,218 new infections reported on Wednesday.
In its Covid-19 bulletin, the Department of Health (DOH) said this brought the total number of active cases to 50,152, lower than Tuesday’s 53,642.
Wednesday’s figure of new cases is the lowest since September 11, when the country logged a peak of 26,303 new infections.
The last time the country logged over 3,000 daily infections was on May 23 this year, with 3,083.
Meanwhile, 6,660 new recoveries pushed the total count to 2,676,349 out of a total of 2,768,849 confirmed infections.
Another 271 new deaths raised the death toll to 42,348.
About 73.4 percent of these active cases are mild, 6.8 percent are asymptomatic, 2.6 percent are critical, 6.2 percent are severe, and 11.02 percent are moderate.
According to DOH data on Oct. 25, about 7.6 percent of 41,049 who were tested turned out positive for Covid-19.
“About 41 duplicates were removed from the total case count, and of these, 37 are recoveries. Moreover, 227 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” it added.
All laboratories were operational on Oct. 25 while one laboratory was not able to submit their data to the Covid-19 Document Repository System.
The one non-reporting laboratories contribute, on average, 0.6 percent of samples tested, and 0.7 percent of positive individuals based on data in the last 14 days.
To date, 51 percent of 4,300 intensive care unit beds, 40 percent of 20,700 isolation beds, 36 percent of 14,600 ward beds, and 34 percent of 3,300 ventilators are utilized by patients with Covid-19 nationwide.
Meanwhile, 42 percent of 1,500 intensive care unit beds, 34 percent of 4,900 isolation beds, 32 percent of 4,100 ward beds, and 31 percent of 1,000 ventilators dedicated to patients with Covid-19 are in use in the National Capital Region.
