DOLE boosts livelihood project in Antique

Eighteen beneficiaries, mostly farmers and livestock raisers, in the Municipality of San Remigio received support from

the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Kabuhayan Program to boost their chicken egg production.

Antique information officer Donnabelle Baldonado, in an interview Tuesday, said DOLE OIC-Regional Director Sixto T. Rodriguez, Jr. released a check worth PHP248,992 for the livelihood assistance of farmers in Barangay Tubudan in San Remigio on January 18.

“The beneficiaries of the egg production project will use the funds to purchase 270 heads of ready-to-lay pullets, 45 sacks of feeds with vitamins and vaccines,” Baldonado said.

The beneficiaries were identified by the officials of Barangay Tubudan, which is the project proponent.

The livelihood program is a group-managed undertaking of the beneficiaries so to boost their livelihood.

The group aims to supply chicken eggs to the community and its neighboring barangays, she added.

As a group venture, the project will be managed by the beneficiaries and eyeing to expand it in the next few years with more target market.

DOLE Antique Field Office Head Carmela M. Abellar expressed optimism that “the project will prosper and will be sustainable because the beneficiaries are experienced and knowledgeable in poultry raising.”

DOLE found the project feasible in the mountainous Barangay Tubudan because, in addition to being accessible, it is primarily an agricultural community with farming and livestock raising as the major sources of income of the residents.
