Eastern Visayas gets 105K doses of Pfizer vax

Some 105,300 doses of Pfizer vaccines have arrived in the Eastern Visayas this week to ensure continuing immunization drive against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

The region now has a total of 218,790 doses of Pfizer vaccines from the National Covid-19 Vaccination Operations Center, the DOH regional office here reported on Thursday.

Of the newly arrived vaccines, some 44,460 doses were immediately transferred to the cold storage facility of Leyte province while 18,720 doses were directly delivered to Catbalogan City in Samar province.

“Leyte province and the Catbalogan are the only local government units in the region with ultra-low freezers,”

Jelyn Lopez-Malibago, Department of Health Eastern Visayas regional information officer, said in a phone interview.

Meanwhile, the remaining 42,120 doses of Pfizer vaccines have been transported directly to the cold storage facility of the DOH regional office for further allocation and distribution to the remaining provinces.

Since Pfizer brand became available in the country, this US-made vaccines have been distributed in the cities of Tacloban and Ormoc, and towns of Palo, Tanauan, Dulag, Kananga, Bato, Albuera, Leyte, Abuyog, Javier, and Mahaplag in Leyte province.

In Biliran province, inoculation has been done in the towns of Naval, Almeria, and Caibiran.

Recipient areas in Eastern Samar include Borongan City, and towns of Guiuan, Salcedo, Oras, Taft, Dolores, and Sulat.

In Samar province, the vaccine has been distributed in Catbalogan City, Calbayog City, Paranas, Jiabong, Gandara, and Basey town.

In Northern Samar, the vaccines have been made available to residents of Catarman and San Roque towns.

In Southern Leyte, these vaccines have reached Maasin City and towns of Sogod, Hinunangan, Bontoc, Hinundayan, and Tomas Oppus.

The DOH regional office has yet to come up with a total number of residents administered with different brands of Covid-19 vaccines.
