Fast economic rebound seen from lower alert level in Biliran

The provincial government of Biliran is upbeat of faster economic recovery following the recent downgrading of alert level status in the province.

Eased travel restrictions will lead to the resumption of operations of tourism sites and establishments providing services to tourists, Biliran Governor Rogelio Espina said.

“The implementation of alert level system in the province would allow for the recovery of sectors most affected by the Covid-19 restrictions, while still protecting the people’s health through the continuous observance of public health protocols and interventions and the impositions of granular lockdown if needed,” Espina said in a statement.

Biliran is the only province in Eastern Visayas under Alert Level 1.

The other five provinces -Eastern Samar, Leyte, Northern Samar, Samar, and Southern Leyte- are still under Alert Level 2 from March 1 to 15 as declared by the National Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases.

Work in all private and government offices resumed at 100 percent capacity and public transportation is also allowed to operate at 100 percent seating capacity.

The governor earlier ordered to discontinue the border control checkpoints.

Although travel restrictions are lifted, Biliran residents, travelers, and tourists are expected to observe the minimum health protocols like wearing face masks, physical distancing, and hand sanitation.

The management is reminded to strictly observe the minimum health standards and presentation of Safe Biliran QR Code and vaccination card particularly in activities held indoors.

Since the country opened its doors to foreign tourists on February 10, accredited hotels in Biliran have already welcomed four foreign guests.
