’Habagat’ to bring rain showers over parts of Luzon, Visayas

General

The southwest monsoon (habagat) affecting the western section of Luzon and the Visayas will bring rains over these areas, a weather forecaster said Thursday.

“Scattered rains, with at times heavy rains will prevail over Mindoro and Palawan,” said Benison Estareja of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Western Visayas and the Zamboanga Peninsula will also experience scattered rains and thunderstorms, and residents should take precautions against possible flooding.

Estareja said the southwest monsoon is expected to affect most parts of Luzon and the Visayas until next week.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms.

Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas will continue to prevail over the entire archipelago.

A low pressure area (LPA) was spotted 1,600 kilometers east of Central Luzon, according to Estareja.

“It has a slim chance of developing into a tropical cyclone within 24 hours. It would gradually head to Philippine Area of Responsibility, and likely enter somewhere east of Northern Luzon,” he said.

The LPA is forecast to enhance the southwest monsoon in the coming days, Estareja said.
