Lawmakers at the House of Representatives on Tuesday mourned the death of Tarlac Rep. Carlos Charlie Cojuangco.

House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco said the lower chamber “mourns the loss of one of its political party leaders”.

“His untimely demise leaves a void in the Nationalist People’s Coalition and the entire House supermajority coalition. We have lost a leader and a friend,” Velasco said.

“May he rest in peace, and may his family find comfort during this difficult time. He will be greatly missed,” he added.

Pangasinan Rep. Christopher De Venecia, who chairs the House Committee on Creative Industry and Performing Arts, said Cojuangco was a staunch supporter of the creatives sector and of sectors immediately impacted by economic growth.

“Cong. Charlie and I had our respective bills on creatives so we saw eye-to-eye on what we needed to do. He was like a big brother to me,” De Venecia said.

Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, acting presidential spokesperson, also condoled with the family of Cojuangco.

“We express our deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Tarlac first district representative Carlos Charlie Cojuangco who passed away at the age of 58,” Nograles said.

“We join his loved ones in praying for his eternal repose,” he added.
