Laoag City extends renewal of business permits

The city government of Laoag has extended the deadline for the renewal of business permits from January 20 to February 15.

Through an urgent motion of Mayor Michael M. Keon, members of the city council have unanimously approved the 26-day extension to give business owners more time.

“The payment of the fees for business applications and renewal of business permits and licenses should be paid within the first 20 days of January but due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic, many were affected including the operation of the City Treasurer’s Office, hence, the need to give more time for the others to comply with the rules,” City Councilor Juan Conrado Respicio II said in an interview Friday.

Business owner Melody Baptista called the extended deadline of renewal of business permits in the city without penalty or surcharges a “welcome development” to give them more time to earn for the payment.

The city government also continues to bring service to the public through the “Business One-Stop Shop” where business establishments can avail of a speedy and more convenient business licensing application process.

In partnership with national government agencies, the conduct of inspections needed for licensing is located in one place to ensure faster transaction in applying and renewing business permits through an integrated system called Business Permit License System, which was introduced by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

National agencies, such as the Philippine Health Insurance Corp., Social Security System, and Bureau of Internal Revenue, are present for the one-stop shop licensing program.

Local bodies, such as the city health office, fire department, and governor’s office, are also present for the validation and issuance of clearances.
