In a bid to ramp up the inoculation of the transport sector against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Central Visayas launched on Monday a five-day vaccination drive at its Malasakit Lounge here.

Apart from drivers and transport operators, members of their families can also avail themselves of the jabs at the LTO-7’s licensing office located on Natalio Bacalso Avenue.

Undersecretary Mark Steven Pastor of the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) Road Transport and Infrastructure Office, said in a video message during the opening ceremony that the activity is “part of our continuing efforts to help ensure the health and safety of all our stakeholders as we ramp up our bid to finally put an end to the Covid-19 pandemic”.

He cited the need for everyone to get involved in the fight against the virus.

“Without their help and cooperation, the government will not be successful in this fight. Indeed, great things are achieved when we join hands and work together,” Pastor said as he noted that the DOTr has partnered with other government agencies as well as the private sector to bring the vaccines to all Filipinos.

Meanwhile, LTO-7 regional director Victor Emmanuel Caindec, who was present in the event, said his office fully supports the vaccination drive initiated by the DOTr and the Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas.

Eduardo Montealto Jr., Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) regional director, on the other hand, said the first two days of the vaccination drive on Monday and Tuesday (February 7-8) will be exclusive for registered operators, drivers and their families.

However, it will be open to the public from February 9 to11, he added.
