The city government here will roll out its coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pediatric vaccination program for children aged five to 11 years old on Friday, February 18.

Dr. Jose Antonio Rivera, the chief implementer of the city’s Covid-19 Response Integrated System (CRIS), said on Wednesday the city’s pediatric vaccination for those who are 5-11 years old will be held at the SM City Clark – IMAX Cinema.

Rivera said the city will pilot the administration of Covid-19 vaccines to indigent Mabalaqueño children using reformulated Pfizer BioNTech doses.

“Minabuti ng ating Mayor Cris Garbo and Vice Mayor Gerald Aquino na unahin ang mga kabataang nasa marginalized sector. Sila ang uunahin nating bakunahan ngayon Biyernes sa SM City Clark (Mayor Cris Garbo and Vice Mayor Gerald Aquino have decided to prioritize the children belonging to the marginalized sector. They will be the first to be vaccinated this Friday at the SM City Clark),” he said in an interview.

Meanwhile, CRIS Focal Person for Pediatric Vaccination Maricris David said preregistration for pediatric vaccination is now ongoing in the city.

The city government is urging parents and guardians to have their children preregistered at their respective Department of Education (DepEd) schools for children studying in the city, Local Youth Development Office (LYDO) in City Hall for those enrolled outside the city, or at their daycare centers.

Garbo said the pandemic situation in the city is gradually improving as manifested by the drastic decline in daily Covid-19 infections and high number of recoveries after the surge of Omicron variant-caused cases last January.

He attributed Mabalacat’s high recovery rate to having inoculated a substantial number of its residents against the dreaded disease.

To date, the city’s total confirmed Covid-19 cases is 8,770 with only nine active cases. The total number of recoveries is 8,524, and the number of mortalities is 237.
