Mobile number, email address necessary for PhilSys updates

Legal Rights

Although some information are optional, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) recommends that mobile number and email address be provided to get updates on the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) registration.

The mobile number and email address are optional but are recommended so that the registrant can receive updates on the registration status, the PSA said in its recent post.

During the Step 1 registration, the Philippine Identification (PhilID) applicant will be asked for the full name, gender, birthdate, birth place, blood type, permanent address, current address, citizenship status, and marital status, which is also an optional data.

The PSA reminds registrants to make sure the information are current and updated to avoid discrepancies during the Step 2 biometrics process.

Registrants will be legally liable for fraud if they intentionally provide wrong information in order to get a national ID.

The PSA assures all personal information are fully protected with modern security measures under the law.

Signed into law by President Rodrigo R. Duterte in August 2018, Republic Act 11055, or the Philippine Identification System Act, aims to establish a single national ID for all Filipinos and resident aliens.

The national ID shall be a valid proof of identity that shall be a means of simplifying public and private transactions, enrollment in schools, and the opening of bank accounts.

It also seeks to boost efficiency, especially in dealing with government services where people will only need to present one ID during transactions.
