Monsoon rains to dampen parts of Luzon

General

Monsoon rains are expected to dampen most parts of Luzon as the southwest monsoon is enhanced by Tropical Storm Fabian and the tropical depression outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the weather bureau said Monday.

Ilocos Region, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan will experience monsoon rains in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services (PAGASA) said in its latest tropical cyclone bulletin issued at 5 a.m.

Though “Fabian” slightly intensified, it is not expected to bring heavy rainfall.

It packs a maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center, and gustiness of up to 105 kph. The TS was last tracked 1,090 kilometers east northeast of extreme northern Luzon.

PAGASA said the hoisting of any tropical cyclone wind signal (TCWS) over any land area remains less likely.

However, residents and disaster managers in Batanes and Babuyan Islands are advised to continuously monitor the tropical cyclone bulletins as any further southward shift in the forecast track may result in the hoisting of TCWS No. 1 over these areas.

Meanwhile, scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will be experienced Metro Manila, Calabarzon and Western Visayas.

Flash floods or landslides are possible during moderate to at times heavy rains, according to PAGASA.

Mindanao and the rest of the Visayas will have rain showers or thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas will prevail over southern Luzon and the Visayas.

Mariners of small seacraft are advised to take precautionary measures when venturing out to the western seaboard of Palawan including Kalayaan Islands. Inexperienced mariners should avoid navigating in moderate to rough seas.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas, PAGASA said.
