The growth of Covid-19 cases in the National Capital Region (NCR) has decreased to -1 percent based on the seven-day moving average of new infections, the OCTA Research Group said Monday.

NCR’s growth rate was 2 percent on Sunday.

In a televised Laging Handa public briefing, OCTA Research Group member Dr. Guido David said though the number of fresh cases is going down a bit with the negative growth rate “this is not a reason to celebrate because the peak of case might happen.”

“So, hihintayin natin siguro within the next few days or the next week, kapag talagang mas mababa na iyong bilang ng kaso next week, masasabi natin na talagang bumababa na (we’ll wait within the next few days or the next week, if the cases go down next week, we can say they have really decreased),” he added.

NCR’s current reproduction number is 2.67 percent.

“Nanggaling iyan sa six or mahigit sa six – so, isang infected, anim iyong nahahawaan (It came from six or more than six – so one infected [person], can infect six people),” David said.

As for the region’s positivity rate, it went down to 50 percent from 54 percent.

Positivity rate is the percentage of Covid-19 tests performed which turned out positive in a certain area or region.

David said the declining trend in all the indicators are a good sign for the Covid-19 situation in Metro Manila.

He, however, warned the public against being complacent and advised about the strict adherence to the minimum public health protocols which include vaccination and avoiding unnecessary travel.
