The province of Negros Oriental has recorded 193 more recoveries from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) amid a continuing spike in infections.

Assistant Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Liland Estacion, said in a virtual presser on Friday that apart from the latest recoveries, 469 new cases were also reported.

The recoveries and new infections are for September 22 and 23, said Estacion, who is Covid-19 incident commander of the province’s Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID).

Dumaguete City logged the highest number of new cases with 70; followed by Bayawan City with 58; Siaton, 56; Guihulngan, 35; Sibulan, 27; Bacong, 24; Basay, 22; and the rest of the towns and cities with less than 20.

Also, 17 new mortalities were reported in Guihulngan, Mabinay, Tanjay City and Zamboanguita, two each; and Ayungon, Bacong, Bais City, Canlaon City, Dumaguete City, La Libertad, Siaton, Tayasan, and Valencia, one each.

Except for one late reporting from last month, all other deaths were in September, records from the Provincial Health Office showed.

As of September 24, the total caseload of Negros Oriental is 13,331 broken down into 11,551 recoveries, 1,505 active cases, and 275 mortalities.

Estacion appealed to the people to stay at home unless it is necessary to go out, noting the continuing rise in cases which is now attributed to the Delta variant.

She said all Covid-19 cases are considered that of the highly transmissible Delta variant even without confirmation from the Philippine Genome Center, because of the manner in which infection is being transmitted in the community.
