The province of Negros Oriental officially rolled out on Friday its simultaneous vaccination of the pediatric sector comprising children aged 5 to 11 years old in all of the local government units (LGUs) as well as in the mega vaccination site at the Lamberto Macias Sports Center here.

“We are accepting walk-ins for this particular sector although we will also cater to other sectors for booster, first dose, and second dose shots,” said Dr. Liland Estacion, assistant provincial health officer, in mixed English and Cebuano of the Resbakuna Kids rollout during a virtual presser.

Estacion could not yet give the target number for the pediatric vaccination while awaiting the master lists to be submitted by the LGUs, but reassured the public there is enough vaccine for this particular age bracket.

During the vaccination, she led other health workers in wearing party hats and headgear featuring cartoon characters, while the venue was decked with toys and balloons. Children also received treats after being administered with the Pfizer vaccine.

Meanwhile, the latest surge in coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in Negros Oriental continues to slow down even amidst the threat of the Omicron variant.

Estacion said the number of active cases in the province has already dropped to three digits in the past weeks as opposed to four digits in early February.

The total Covid-19 caseload of Negros Oriental as of Thursday is 22,337 broken down into 22,352 recoveries, 260 active cases, and 725 mortalities.
