A New People’s Army (NPA )rebel in Gabaldon, Nueva Ecija has voluntarily surrendered to the 91st Infantry “Sinagtala” Battalion (91IB), 7th Infantry “Kaugnay” Division (7ID) of the Philippine Army on Tuesday.

In an interview on Wednesday, Lt. Col. Reandrew P. Rubio, 91IB commander, said the surrenderer whom he identified as Fernando Moises Alvarado with the aliases of Ka Dindo/Cristy/Jeorge, 44, a resident of Barangay Bugnan, Gabaldon, Nueva Ecija, was a member of the communist terrorist group’s (CTG) Sandatahang Yunit Pampropaganda-3 (SYP-3).

He said the former rebel was convinced by the sincerity of the government to resolve key community issues through its implementation of President Rodrigo Duterte’s Executive Order No. 70 which institutionalizes the whole-of-nation approach in attaining inclusive and sustainable peace.

“The surrenderer likewise said that he decided to leave the NPA because he no longer sees any reasons to continue the fight against the government,” he said.

Rubio said the surrenderer turned in a .357 caliber Smith and Wesson Magnum without ammunition and serial number and a subversive document entitled “Batayang Kurso ng Partido”.

He said the gun and subversive document were brought to the Gabaldon Municipal Police Station for documentation and proper disposition.

The Communist Party of the Philippines-NPA is listed as a terrorist organization by the United States, European Union, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the Philippines.
