Over 800K doses of Covid-19 vax shipped to E. Visayas: DOH

TACLOBAN CITY – Eastern Visayas region has already received 829,920 doses of anti-Covid-19 vaccines with the arrival of 64 boxes of Sinovac vaccines and a box of Pfizer vaccines on Monday.

The 64 boxes of Sinovac contain 102,400 doses of vaccines while the 195 vials of Pfizer are equivalent to 1,170 doses.

The Sinovac vaccines are intended for all six provinces in the region, including Tacloban City and Ormoc City, the region’s two independent cities.

The vaccines are intended for health workers, senior citizens, and persons with comorbidities, according to DOH Region 8 information officer Jelyn Lopez-Malibago in an interview with reporters on Tuesday.

“The Pfizer vaccines are intended for the towns of Palo and Dulag in Leyte, chosen by the National Task Force against Covid-19 Vaccine Cluster for the pilot implementation of the Pfizer vaccination in Leyte province,” Malibago said.

The city of Ormoc was picked last June as the pilot site for Pfizer vaccination in the region by the National Task Force against Covid-19 Vaccine Cluster.

As of August 2, the region has already received 525,810 doses of Sinovac; 167,000 doses of AstraZeneca; 3,510 doses of Pfizer; 2,400 doses of Sputnik V; and 131,200 doses of Janssen vaccines.

A total of 725,489 doses have been distributed to 352 different vaccination sites of local government units in the region as of July 30 where 508,551 vaccines have already been administered for the first and second doses.

As of August 2, Eastern Visayas has already recorded 36,285 confirmed Covid-19 cases, including 34,518 recoveries, 1,346 active cases, and 421 deaths. (PNA)
