PNP active Covid-19 infections reach 1.8K; most cases mild

The Philippine National Police (PNP) continues to see a spike in coronavirus infections among its ranks.

In its Covid-19 bulletin released Monday, the PNP Health Service said 436 new cases raised the active case tally to 1,884 out of a total of 43,603 confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic.

“Thankfully, many of the Covid cases among our police personnel developed mild symptoms, which will only need home or facility isolation,” PNP Chief Gen. Dionardo Carlos said in a statement.

Another five new recoveries, meanwhile, brought the active cases to 41,954 while the death toll stands at 125.

Carlos assured that the surge in infections will not affect the operations of the police force.

“We have our deployment strategy that in case a member of the police unit will be isolated, those who are not in contact with him/her will take over. Of course, swab testing is a regular thing for us,” said Carlos, who also tested positive for Covid-19.

He said work continues also for those who are asymptomatic and can still manage to discharge their functions even at home or inside a facility.

Carlos also reminded personnel to always maintain a healthy body and a sound mind to effectively function as front-liners in this fight against this lethal virus.

PNP records also show that 215,779 personnel (95.76 percent) are already fully vaccinated, while 8,130 (3.61 percent) are waiting for their second dose.

There are still 1,424 PNP personnel (0.63 percent) that have yet to receive any dose of the vaccine.
