The Supreme Court (SC) has issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) against the Commission on Elections’ (Comelec) decision turning down the candidacy of a man running for senator.
In an order released on Wednesday, the SC en banc, through Deputy Clerk of Court Anna-Li R. Papa-Gombio asked the poll body to halt the implementation of its resolution junking the bid of Norman Cordero Marquez.
In its Dec. 13, 2021 resolution, the poll body declared Marquez a “nuisance candidate” and canceled his certificate of candidacy for senator for the May 9, 2022 elections.
Marquez, according to his social media page, is joining the Senate race with the platform of being an “animal welfare advocate” and has called for legislation to prevent property owners from evicting persons for owning pets, among others.
The SC also required the Comelec to answer Marquez’s suit within 10 days.
