Tabaco City fisherfolk get 30 motorboats from DOLE

At least 30 motorized boats were granted by Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III, through the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) to Tabaco City fishers in simple rites held recently at the Fatima Fishport.

In an interview on Wednesday, Johana Vi Gasga, DOLE-Bicol spokesperson, said the boats were part of the DOLE chief’s commitment to families affected by strong typhoons last year.

“A total amount of PHP900,000 was awarded by DOLE-Bicol with a PHP36,000 local government unit (LGU) counterpart for the cost of boat/banca,” she said.

DOLE-Bicol Regional Director Maria Zenaida Angara-Campita, together with officer-in-charge Assistant Regional Director Imelda E. Romanillos, DOLE-Albay Livelihood focal person Olga Ludovice, and other officials facilitated the awarding of the boats.

“This is our way of providing assistance to the fisherfolk, thereby alleviating their lives and providing additional income,” Campita said in a statement.

DILP or “Kabuhayan” is DOLE’s capacity-building assistance for the working poor, vulnerable and marginalized workers, either for individual or group livelihood projects and undertakings.
