Zambo City Jail signs up PDLs to PhilSys

The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP)-administered Zamboanga City Jail (ZCJ) has started the registration of persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) to the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys).

Senior Jail Officer 2 Rey Laurence Comprendio, ZCJ information officer, said Thursday a total of 1,900 fully vaccinated PDLs will be registered to the PhilSys.

Comprendio said workers of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), assisted by BJMP personnel, have begun taking the basic data and biometrics of the PDLs, which form part of Steps 1 and 2 of the registration.

He added that the PDLs’ registration is expected to be completed after more than a week.

The registration was made possible through the effort of Supt. Nathaniel Aljas, ZCJ warden and the PSA office here.

“It is for the benefit of the PDLs since the majority of them do not have an identification card,” Comprendio said.

Republic Act 11055 or the Philippine Identification System Act establishes a single national identification system that aims to provide a valid proof of identity for Filipino citizens.

President Rodrigo Duterte signed RA 11055 into law on August 6, 2018.
