This city remains free from the Omicron variant of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) despite the continuous increase of cases here, a health official said Tuesday.

Dr. Cathy Garcia, assistant city health officer, said 205 new cases were recorded as of Monday, increasing the total cumulative cases of Covid-19 to 25,104.

On the same day, the city health office (CHO) said a total of 21,905 cumulative recoveries have so far been recorded, with 1,124 total deaths.

As of Monday, this city’s active cases climbed to 2,075 from 85 on January 4.

“We have no confirmed cases of Omicron variant. The Philippine Genome Center has not yet furnished us any test result,” Garcia said.

The CHO, through the Department of Health (DOH) regional office, has already forwarded 49 samples to the Philippine Genome Center for testing.

Garcia said 1,049 patients representing 93.32 percent of the 1,124 recorded deaths were unvaccinated individuals while the rest were vaccinated.

Meanwhile, Garcia disclosed that some 273 government employees have been infected with Covid-19 since January 1, this year.

She said 58 of the 273 are employees of the local government while the rest are from different agencies of government.

“The uniformed personnel are not included in the list,” she said.

She noted that some of the government employees were infected at their workplaces while the others either had close contact or were exposed to family members positive for Covid-19.
