1.3K Public Schools in Western Visayas Suspend In-Person Classes

Iloilo city: The Department of Education (DepEd) 6 in Western Visayas has reported that 1,372 public schools have transitioned to an alternative delivery mode (ADM) of learning. This shift comes after local government units (LGUs) suspended face-to-face classes due to adverse weather conditions.

According to Philippines News Agency, the suspension impacts 443,769 students ranging from Kindergarten to Senior High School, as per data from DepEd. The affected students include 131,833 from 539 schools in Antique, 185,597 from 576 schools in Iloilo province, 77,686 from 66 schools in Iloilo City, and 25,324 from 50 schools in Roxas City.

DepEd-6 information officer Hernani Escullar Jr. stated in an interview, "We in DepEd, abide by the guidelines of LGU, particularly in the suspension of in-person classes because of the inclement weather conditions we are currently experiencing. With this, affected schools shifted to ADM to ensure learning continuity amongst learners." He emphasized that DepEd remains committed to providing ADM to facilitate uninterrupted learning during challenging weather conditions.

Escullar also urged parents and students to stay informed about the situation and adhere to the latest guidelines issued by the LGUs to ensure the safety and educational continuity of the learners.
