Manila: Ten members of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) assigned to the Southern Metro Manila District Field Unit have been placed under restrictive custody and detained at the Philippine Custodial Facility. This action follows orders from Director Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III, amid allegations of kidnapping and robbery extortion.
According to Philippines News Agency, PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo announced during a press briefing at Camp Crame that the officers were detained last Monday, April 28, after receiving a report from the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG). The report prompted Gen. Torre to take immediate action against the CIDG personnel.
The initial investigation indicates that on February 17, 2025, the accused officers conducted a raid at a warehouse located in the First Tondo Complex, Tondo, Manila. The individuals targeted in the raid were reportedly taken to the CIDG office in Taguig City under allegations of violating Republic Act 10591, also known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act. Subsequently, the CIDG operatives allegedly demanded money for the release of the detained individuals.
On April 21, the PNP IMEG recommended the filing of administrative cases against the accused officers. These cases include charges of grave misconduct, conduct unbecoming of a police officer, and neglect of duty.
In response to these allegations, Torre ordered the immediate recall of the officers' issued firearms and badges, which have since been turned over to the CIDG NCR Logistics Section. Torre emphasized his stance by stating, "Hindi ko papayagan at itolerate ang mga ganitong pangyayari sa CIDG (I will not allow and tolerate these kinds of incident in the CIDG)."
