Manila: More than 14,000 police officers from the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) have been strategically deployed to ensure the safety of Metro Manila during the bustling holiday season. NCRPO chief Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin announced the heightened alert status and the deployment plan, which includes enhanced security measures at key locations throughout the capital.

According to Philippines News Agency, Maj. Gen. Aberin stated that police officers and allied security personnel have been positioned at churches, malls, public markets, major thoroughfares, and transportation hubs. The goal is to provide comprehensive security coverage, especially in areas where people tend to gather during the festive period.

To enhance security at Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Metro Rail Transit (MRT) stations, Aberin mentioned plans to assign at least two police officers per station to work alongside Philippine Coast Guard personnel. Furthermore, police assistance desks will be established in shopping malls, and additional police presence will be detailed across all LRT and MRT stations in Metro Manila.

A security assessment will be conducted in the coming days to determine if there is a need to escalate the alert level to full alert. The deployment of police personnel will intensify starting December 16, coinciding with the commencement of the nine-day Simbang Gabi (dawn Masses). Churches and roads leading to and from them will be the primary focus during this period.

Despite not identifying any serious threats for the holiday season, Aberin emphasized the importance of vigilance. He advised the public to avoid wearing or carrying expensive items and to remain alert and observant of their surroundings. Immediate reporting of any suspicious activities to the nearest police personnel is encouraged to ensure swift police action and response.
