15 Mindoro Inmates Graduate from DepEd’s ALS Senior High School Program

Mindoro: Fifteen persons deprived of liberty (PDL) from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP)-San Jose District Jail here achieved a significant milestone by graduating from the Department of Education's (DepEd) Alternative Learning System (ALS) Senior High School program.

According to Philippine News Agency, Jail Officer 3 Joefrie Anglo, the initiative aligns with the agency's commitment to providing developmental opportunities for PDL, offering them a chance to rebuild their lives and contribute positively to society.

Anglo emphasized that the graduates' success demonstrates that education is attainable through effort and determination, inspiring others to pursue their dreams despite challenging circumstances. One female graduate expressed, "Maraming salamat po sa programang ALS, ang mga aktibidad na ito para kami ay matuto ay naging inspirasyon din namin para baguhin at isaayos ang aming buhay," which translates to a heartfelt gratitude towards the ALS program for inspiring personal reform through education.

Acting District Jail Warden Jail Senior Inspector Efren Olivar led the awarding of medals to outstanding completers and graduates who displayed diligence, hard work, and excellence in their studies. He noted that the opportunity for studies brought the PDL hope as they approach the completion of their sentences.

The graduation ceremony on Monday was attended by officials from BJMP and DepEd, who pledged to continue the ALS extension program. (PR)
